Meet Ashton

Hey! I'm Ashton. I love the outdoors, being active, and anything that promotes a sense of peace. I moved to the "Slowcountry" because I've always felt drawn to the ocean and I like the slower pace of a small town. I love kayaking, boating, and floating down the river. You can also find me at the beach, reading, walking my dog, painting, journaling, or traveling in my spare time.

If you've ever heard of the Enneagram, I'm a type 9- "The Peacemaker."  I can always find the "kernel of truth" in every perspective.  I genuinely care for all of my clients and have a lot of patience because I know healing takes time and believe everyone is doing the best they can with what they know.   I also believe everyone has a fundamental need for love and acceptance.  I like to balance acceptance with change by using validation, while also encouraging new ways of responding to life’s challenges.

I thought I had a perfect family growing up. When I learned more about myself and human behavior/psychology, I realized that no family is perfect, and every single one of us has childhood wounds that can affect our relationships and work life, even as adults.

I'm passionate about helping people who never felt like they belonged to know their worth, learn how to put themselves first (without being selfish), and develop healthier relationships. I'm grateful for the challenges I've overcome in my life because they've enabled me to understand and validate others while knowing that things can get better...much better.

I know what it's like to feel stuck in an unhealthy relationship, to feel worthless, and want to give up. If that sounds like you, please don't try to go through this alone. I'm here to help and it can get better.

I attended Newberry College for my BA and Eastern Virginia Medical School for my MS in Art Therapy & Counseling. I have intensive training and experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing.  I've worked with a diverse clientele, primarily adults, since 2012.  As always, I'm excited to work with motivated, introspective individuals who want to feel better about themselves, life, and their relationships.
